Beekeeping Small Business Enterprise.
August 2023.

Thanks to the generous contributions of our Southern California donors, the village of Enkusero Sampu has initiated a beekeeping enterprise with a goal of selling honey both locally and globally.

With the guidance of local agriculture department agents, the residents of Enkusero Sampu have established a commercial apiary for the purposes of bottling and selling honey. The honey is unique and delicious, with the bees feeding upon only wild pollen and nectar, predominantly from the Kenyan Acacia tree, or Whistling Thorn.

Work started immediately with residents constructing an apiary shed. Soon after, the village beekeeping team acquired fifty hives and sufficient bees to fill them. Work teams have been formed and various responsibilities for the care of the bees and upkeep of the equipment as well as the commercial side of bottling and selling the honey have been discussed and assigned.

Beekeeping achieves four main community goals:

  • Provides desperately needed economic opportunity and small business experience to the village

  • Living lessons for youngsters by introducing the principles of farming and small business economy.

  • Brings badly needed pollinators to the area – all farming depends on bees.

  • Supports the area’s biodiversity by providing food for wildlife by pollinating local flora.

If you would like to be a part of this incredible new effort, please considering donating to our charity which goes directly to the village of Enkusero Sampu, Kenya. The residents of Enkusero Sampu and their honeybees will thank you!
